Mrs. Melissa Hood - Area 1
Melissa grew up in the Cheddar community and graduated from Palmetto High School in 1986. She graduated Cum Laude from Lander University in 1989 with a degree in Elementary Education. She immediately began teaching in Anderson District One at Cedar Grove Elementary in January 1990 and transferred to Pelzer Primary at the beginning of the 1990-91 school year. After teaching six years, she decided to stay home with her children. While they were young, she taught preschool at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Easley and earned her certification in Early Childhood Education from Anderson University. She taught part-time at Spearman Elementary for two years and volunteered as the Ministry Assistant at Mount Moriah Baptist Church at the same time. During this time, the church offered her the job. She has been the Ministry Assistant at Mount Moriah for 17 years and attends there as a member as well.
Melissa has always been actively involved in the schools that her children attended. She has served as grade mother several times at Concrete. Melissa has also served on the School Improvement Councils for Concrete, Powdersville Elementary and Wren High. She held the positions of PTSO president, vice-president, secretary/treasurer and fundraiser chairman for Powdersville Elementary. She has also served as the workroom coordinator for Powdersville Middle. She has also served as a mentor in the district.
Melissa and her husband Tommy live in Powdersville and have two grown children.
