The Wren Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) "Leadership Development Program" is a fun, unique peer-led opportunity designed to develop citizenship and leadership qualities to give high school students, especially Freshmen and Sophomores, a head start in life. The four-year program helps develop self-discipline, confidence, character and leadership traits needed to competently meet life's challenges.
Documented leadership experience is highly recognized by college and service academy admissions officers, scholarship boards, hiring managers, and service recruiters alike. Wren NJROTC's Leadership Development Program is available to all students, and enrollment satisfies one high school P.E. credit. Instructors do not recruit for the military, and no student is ever obligated to serve in the Armed Forces.
The NJROTC program was established by Public Law in 1964 (Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102). The program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation and is facilitated by retired military instructors. Uniforms, textbooks, training aids, travel allowance, and a substantial portion of instructors' salaries are provided by the Navy. Enrolled students must have a current physical evaluation, health risk questionnaire, and standard release form on file with JROTC.
