About Us

West Pelzer Elementary School is helping all students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the Graduate by providing an environment which promotes valuable academic opportunities and addresses the individual needs of students.  Our mission is to R.E.A.C.H. every child, parent, teacher, and community member of WPES by respecting others, educating all, achieving goals, communicating well, and setting high expectations while molding today’s learner into tomorrow’s creative and innovative thinker.

Academic success is the driving force behind our mission.  Our district's Digital Innovation program provided iPads to students in grades K-12, encouraging them to be college and career ready upon graduation. Staff professional development was provided to enhance students' experiences and meet individual needs.  Digital citizenship, class management apps, and student apps were implemented as well as continued strategies of guided reading and intervention.  Teachers used a variety of effective and engaging strategies in the classroom, through field trips or bringing history to life through plays. We promote core academics with reading logs, Greenville Drive Reading program, math fluency recognitions, Real Men Read, STEAM, Literacy and LIM Days.

Our PTO works hard to provide a Fall Festival, Spring Fling, Fifth Grade Dance, Teacher Appreciation luncheons, and a fun color run.  Our school raises money for our Jump Rope for Heart, Relay for Life, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Shriner's Hospital, our community and our school.  These efforts begin to show the process to students of the impact we can make in contributing to other people's needs in society.

Collaboration, teamwork, and self-direction are a part of our students' academic work; however, our school provides other opportunities for students to grow.  We offer various opportunities for both in-school and after-school enrichment, including multiple clubs and teams: Leadership, BETA Club, Safety and Flag Patrol, Strong Ties, Friday Friends, Morning News Crew, Library Leaders, Book Drama Club, STEAM Team, Coffee Cart, Recycling Rangers, Litter Patrol, WPES Postal, GoalPost, YMCA and the Good News Club.

Our parents are very supportive and attend conferences, student performances, and Title I parent events.  We hope to continue academic successes by creating a challenging learning environment for all students with a shared focus from parents, teachers, and community members.
