Williamston, S.C. - The Anderson School District One Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the name of the new elementary school expected to open in Fall 2026.
During the April 23rd Board Meeting, Board Members voted to name the new school Oak Hill Elementary. The district received input from parents and the community through a Google form sent to all parents in a newsletter and through social media. All 93 names submitted by parents and the community were presented to the board for consideration, several of which included ‘Oak’ in the name.
The selected name has ties to the community’s history. Documented photographs believed to be from the 1930’s show students once attended an Oak Hill School in the area.
“We are very pleased that the school board has agreed to name our new school ‘Oak Hill Elementary,’” said Superintendent Robbie Binnicker. “This is a very fitting name that honors the former school located not far from the site of the new school as well as the students that once attended. A huge thank you to all of the parents and community members that submitted suggestions and recommendations for naming the new school. These suggestions were invaluable to the Board in making a final decision.”
The school will be located at 250 Oak Road in Piedmont. It will serve students and families in the Powdersville area in order to accommodate growth at Concrete Primary and Powdersville Elementary schools.
We invite anyone in the community with photos or artifacts from the former school to share them with Anderson District One via email to gambrellh@apps.anderson1.org. Photos or artifacts can also be mailed or dropped off at the District Office (801 N. Hamilton Street, Williamston, SC 29697).
