policy updates

Cell Phone/Personal Technology Policy:

Per South Carolina legislation, cell phones are prohibited in the classroom, effective immediately. Students should enter the classroom with cell phones silenced/turned off and should be stowed in backpacks. Students, therefore, are also not allowed to wear airpods/earbuds/headphones in the classroom. Should parents need to contact students, please call the front office at (864) 850-5900. Failure to comply with this legislation will result in an automatic referral and consequences will be determined by the administrative team.

Seat Time Recovery:

Per the South Carolina attendance laws (SC Code of Law 59-65-10), students are required to attend school at least 170 of the 180 days in the school year in order to receive credit for a class. Since Wren High School operates on a block schedule, students may not miss more than the following in their respective classes:

  • No more than 10 absences in a year-long (9th core only):

  • No more than 5 absences in a semester class;

  • No more than 3 absences in a nine-week class.

It is also important to note that the first 10 absences in year-long classes, 5 in semester classes, or 3  absences in nine-week classes may be lawful or unlawful (excused or unexcused). However, after these absences, only medical notes, bereavement, or principal excused absences will be considered lawful as defined by state attendance laws. Please note that parent notes are defined as unlawful/unexcused absences according to the state attendance laws.

Any student that has unlawful/unexcused absences after their designated 10, 5, or 3 in their respective classes will be required to attend seat time recovery in order to make up any absences beyond the allowable number. These sessions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 - 5:30 PM. Students needing to attend a seat time recovery session will be required to sign up and pay $10. Students will be eligible to make up two unexcused absences in one seat time recovery session.

Students who fail to attend required seat time recovery sessions will not receive credit for that particular course

. More information regarding seat time recovery sessions will be provided throughout the year.
